Analysis of the significance of zombie movies, from Movies To Save Our World (Penguin, 2022)
7 September 2022
Why are zombie movies so popular all over the world today? Like the zombies they feature, these movies never seem to die out. They keep coming back in sequels, remakes, and new styles and genres to highly appreciative audiences. In this video, Kenneth Paul Tan, Talent 100 Professor at Hong Kong Baptist University, read from his book Movies To Save Our World: Imagining Poverty, Inequality, and Environmental Destruction in the 21st Century (Penguin, 2022) to explain how zombies have become one of the most powerful metaphors for our times, helping us critically to understand such phenomena as neoliberal globalisation and authoritarian populism.
