Discussant, in AcademiaSG Seminar on "Podcasts for Research and Public Engagement in Singapore" by Jin Yao Kwan

30 June 2022

Kenneth Paul Tan served as a discussant in Academia.sg's Singapore Junior Scholar Seminar on "Podcasts for research and public engagement in Singapore", presented by Jin Yao Kwan (Postdoctoral Fellow, Graduate School of Social Work, University of Denver) on 30 June 2022.

As podcasts grow in popularity, they are also increasingly used within academia for research and teaching. socialservice.sg, a website dedicated to social service research, practice, and policies run by the author/speaker, started producing podcasts during Singapore’s first COVID-19 lockdown in April 2020. After sharing research insights about Singaporean youth civic and community engagement during the 2020 circuit-breaker (podcast first season, “COVID-19 Community Chronicles”) and youth civic and political participation during and beyond GE2020 (second season, “The Nine Days”), the seminar explored the strengths and limitations associated with podcast usage and considers potential benefits to researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and educators.
