Public Lecture, "Governing Global-City Singapore"

Kenneth Paul Tan gave a public lecture at the launch of the paperback edition of his book Governing Global-City Singapore: Legacies and Futures After Lee Kuan Yew (Routledge, 2018). What are some plausible futures of Singapore in the post-Lee Kuan Yew age? To answer this, Kenneth Paul Tan and panelists Donald Low and Alvin Pang considered: (1) the durability of Singapore's one-party dominant system; (2) the evolution of meritocracy and pragmatism as fundamental values in its public administration; (3) new dynamics in civil society and the issues that animate it; (4) the government's continuing efforts to engage with the public; and (5) the contest over history and national narratives.
